The third chapter of the life of Rocky Balboa finds Rocky's lifestyle of wealth and idleness suddenly shaken when a powerful fighter challenges him to a bout. After soundly losing, the previously overconfident champ begins training for a rematch. Sylvester Stallone once again directs himself in the film, with Talia Shire by his side. Mr. T makes an excellent villain in this film as the loud and decisive Clubber Lang, who is trying to prevent Rocky from getting the "eye of the tiger."
Title announcer: We'd like to announce the presence at ringside of a true champion; the Master of Disaster, the Count of Monte Fisto, the one, the only Apollo Creed!
[Creed enters the ring and walks over to Lang]
Clubber Lang: [slaps Creed's hand away] Get out of my face! I don't need no has-beens in my corner. What the matter, Creed? You want some of this? Come on! Come on, Creed!
Apollo Creed: [Creed walks away to speak to Rocky] Do everybody a favor and knock this chump out.
Most movies seem to release a third movie just so it can be called a trilogy. ROCKY III seems to kind of fit in that category, but manages to be slightly unique. The ROCKY formula of "Rocky loses fight/Rocky trains/Rocky wins fight" is carried out to the letter. Also the 'tradition' of showing the last five minutes or so from the past ROCKY film is used as well. This movie begins with a series of clips showing how famous Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) has become... Even showing a brief appearance on Sesame Street!!
